The Case Study:
We conducted our field work at Little Red School House & Elisabeth Irwin High School, a K-12 progressive school in downtown Manhattan. Little Red has an existing digital portfolio program in the primary and middle school, but a number of issues have prevented them from developing the program to its potential.

Our conversations with the administration, teachers, and students yielded constructive feedback about how to best leverage the value of digital portfolios, so they enhance reflective learning, and give students tools to express their understanding in diverse ways.
Digital portfolios are not a one-size-fits-all initiative. The different divisions, levels, and departments within a school have various (and sometimes incompatible) needs; likewise, students experience school in so many different ways. The value of digital portfolios lie in their flexibility, and their capacity to be customized according to the needs of the user. At the same time, digital portfolios also help students connect the various threads of their learning, and see how those threads evolve over time. |
